i'm glad you're here and offering this service, but your 40mpg to "nearly 60ish" seems a little inflated, especially without the xfi tranny and computer. skeptic that i am, i tend to shy away from such optimism, especially from someone with 1 post, so i'll wait to see how it plays out.

hacksaw..... do you have a completely stock metro? if you do I will give you the free cam grind if it is the only thing you swap, I would like to be for sure the exact amount of mpg increase so I'm not miss quoting. The feedback I've gotten has been all bout 10 + mpg with cam swap. I'd like to know exactly how much is from truly just cam swap, plugs and filter change.
wanna get actual results soon so the offer stands for the next two weeks only, I will offer it to the next guy;)

Thanks for extending the offer to me. Yes, my 1995 Metro has a completely stock 1994 engine in it with about 500 original miles on it. This '94 engine is the one that will receive the transplant Xfi cam. The cam that I will send you for regrind, however, will be taken out of the 1995 engine that was just pulled from the car last week. The 1995 engine is also completely stock(original timing belt too) and ran beautifully save for the searching idle due to the EGR passages being blocked with carbon. It had 145k on it and compression was 200+ on all cylinders. Would it be safe to use the lifters that are in the 1994 head, since they have so few miles on them, on your reground cam? I would happily post my mpg findings after the swap...I have been keeping track since the day I bought it and keeping short notes about what factors were in play during each tank full.

I am new to the group and new to owning a Geo Metro. I bought a 1992 Geo Metro( LSI, I think) Yellow convertable. I have no engine knowledge or training. I am 50 and frankly am just learning. I believe the owner. Why would he risk his good name and business by overstating the results. My only challedge is that I want to buy it at the cheapest price that I can get it. Is there any individuals out there in 3cylinder land that will come together as a group and allow everyone to get one at the lowest price?

perhaps a little clarification is in order.

i have no reason to doubt that the OP is honest and does quality work. what looked odd was that in his first post to the forum he implied that the cam alone will net nearly 20 mpg. the xfi has several (cam, tranny, computer, rings) differences from the other models, and regularly (from what i've seen) boosts mileage 6-8 mpg, so a near 20 mpg improvement is a little too reminiscent of items available on ebay such as the tornado and performance chips which claim 20-45 hp increases for metros. if the cam nets "only" 4-8 mpg it's a good deal, but having been burned on the net in the past, i like to ask questions.

I took the camshaft out of the 1995 Geo Metro G10 engine today after work. This is the engine that I pulled out of my Metro on July 3rd. It had 145,000 original, untouched miles and ran very well. I have it wrapped up and will drop it in the mail and send it off to you tomorrow after work.

I'm still in the process of calculating a solid base mpg for the 1994 G10 engine that replaced the original one I pulled out. So far I've only got 1 tank through it since installation. That tankful was a 354 mile round trip I made to my parents cottage with me(210lbs), my 4 kids(approx 480lbs), two tents, 4 sleeping bags, and a change of clothes each. I calculated 43.92 mpg at a steady 70 mph almost the entire trip. I'm doing my normal routine this second tank...a mix of city traffic and freeway driving to and from work. Even if I receive your Xfi grind back in a timely manner, I would still like to do a third tank calculation before I install it. Since the engine only has around 600 miles on it as of today, I'm not quite sure what she's capable of mpg-wise. The ignition timing is still where the factory set it (5*), and as much as I'd like to change it a little, I'll leave it alone for at least 3 tankfuls with your Xfi cam grind installed. That way, we will get a good before-and-after comparison of the two camshaft grinds. I'm looking forward to this little experiment, and I hope we can all benefit from it in some way (me gaining more mpg, you gaining some advertisement, and everyone gaining some scientific results)

In the future, I'd like to re-create the trip up north with the kids again...same route, same miles driven, same speeds....If it can reach 70 mph with the new cam!!! hehehe...

Well, I topped off the tank today...A new all-time best of 46.43 mpg. (Mainly because of the new engine, I'm sure...) This might be my last tank of fuel before swapping to the Xfi grind. I still need to receive the camshaft back from Delta Cam and need to buy a valve cover gasket set. I'm wondering if it's absolutely necessary to remove the distributor for the swap? Does anyone have a "cut-corners" way of doing the swap? If not what gaskets will be necessary, besides the v.c. set, to complete the job?
After July 25th, I'll have all kinds of time on my hands to work on the Metro, as I've decided to take the buyout that American Axle is offering. I'll do the cam swap then, most likely...

Anyone know where I can find a new job that pays $20+ an hour? I've kinda got a plan, but I'm open to ideas that I might not have thought of...
