94 1.0 losing coolant

Postby Scoot driver on Wed Feb 03, 2010 8:49 pm

My '94 1.0l is losing coolant out of the exhaust. Can someone give me info?
What is the most likely, gasket or is it cracks? 180K, never any problems, never
overheated, still runs fine.(other than exhuasting coolant). Any help would be
appreciated. Thanks

run a compression check. most likely a head gasket, these are tough little engines.

head gasket should be fairly easy. i'm planning to rebuild my engine this summer, it's too cold in my drafty unheated garage right now. 8)

if youre so inclined, take pictures. some of us (including myself) have never been inside the massive, powerful 1.0. :P

If you do replace the head gasket, you'll need to compare the original gasket to the replacement to make sure all of the holes line up and are the same size. I have read numerous complaints about some manufacturers making gaskets incorrectly, so double check what you get. And remember that the original head bolts are a one time use, torque to spec type, and as such, cannot be reused. Let us know how this works out for you.
